October 16, 2011 - Getting the DIS out of Disappointment Part 2
Staying Encouraged when You Encounter Unmet Expectations in Others
Why Are We Disappointed:
- Unmet Expectations
- Unfair Expectations
- Impatience
Joseph Knew How to Keep the Dis out of Disappointment:
#1 Keep Forgiveness in Your Heart for Others who Disappointed You.
Genesis 45:4 - 4 Then Joseph said to his brothers, “Come close to me.” When they had done so, he said, “I am your brother Joseph, the one you sold into Egypt!
#2 Don’t Fall in to the Same Behavior of those who Disappointed You.
Genesis 39:6-8 - 6 So he left in Joseph’s care everything he had; with Joseph in charge, he did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate. Now Joseph was well-built and handsome, 7 and after a while his master’s wife took notice of Joseph and said, “Come to bed with me!” 8 But he refused. “With me in charge,” he told her, “my master does not concern himself with anything in the house; everything he owns he has entrusted to my care.
#3 Stay Focused on the Goodness of God.
Genesis 50:20 - 20 You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.
#4 Remain Faithful to Your Commitment to God’s Purpose in Your Life.
Genesis 40:1 - 1 Some time later, the cupbearer and the baker of the king of Egypt offended their master, the king of Egypt.
Genesis 41:1 - 1 When two full years had passed, Pharaoh had a dream: He was standing by the Nile.
- Staying in Close Communion with God
Genesis 40:8 - 8 “We both had dreams,” they answered, “but there is no one to interpret them.” Then Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell me your dreams.”
#5 Work for the Fulfillment of God’s Blessing in those who Disappointed You.
Genesis 50:21 - 21 So then, don’t be afraid. I will provide for you and your children.” And he reassured them and spoke kindly to them.
