About the Senior Classics

The purpose of the Senior Classics is to encourage those in our church who are 55 and over to participate in activities that foster spiritual growth and health, age-level educational pursuits, evangelistic outreach, and wholesome fellowship events. We want to promote strong focal points of need so that people may be involved in an area that interests them.

September 29, 2011 – Final Senior “Classics” letter for 2011

Written by Charlotte Howard.

Greetings to the awesome “Classics” of The Worship Center!  I am going to give you a lot of information in this letter (some things reiterated) and ask that you mark your calendars accordingly:

October - I have 9 signed up for the steam engine train ride on Saturday, October 22nd  from Cumberland to Frostburg, Md.  The tickets have been ordered and we will pick them up at the train depot the day we go.  Tickets are $27 each.  Let’s plan to meet at the church at 8 a.m.   Lloyd is driving the shuttle bus for us.  I have given you details earlier about lunch.  It is probably not too late for you to go, but if you do want to go, I would appreciate your letting me know as soon as possible.
November – Reminder about our church service at Long Term Care on Wed., Nov. 2nd at 2:30 p.m.  I sure could use your support in greeting the residents and singing.

Due to a conflict in schedule, we have moved our annual Thanksgiving Banquet service to Saturday, November 12th in the Fellowship Hall at 12 noon.  The lunch will be provided.  I am so pleased to have as our guest speaker, Rev. Mary Howard (no relation) from Winchester, Va. with her daughter, Melody.  They will be ministering in song and sharing the Word.  Rev. Howard recently lost her husband, Irving and has since become very involved in guest speaking, nursing home ministry and music ministry throughout our District.  I remember her and her husband from a children’s revival at our original church on Harrison Street in Leesburg and they were excellent.  Pastor Adams knows this family well (from Pa.) and highly recommends Rev. Howard as a guest speaker.  There will also be prayer at the conclusion of our service for anyone desiring to be anointed.  You won’t want to miss this time together!  Please RSVP by Monday, Nov. 7th if you will attend because of food preparation.

December – I have 10 signed up for the Gaithers Christmas Homecoming Concert on Dec. 3rd at the Patriot Center at GMU in Fairfax.  The tickets have been ordered and are $29.50 each.  I am not sure if floor seats are still available because tickets are selling fast but if you want to go, again I need to know immediately.  I need a driver for the shuttle bus if you can; otherwise, we will take cars.

Let’s have a breakfast/planning meeting for 2012 on Saturday morning, Dec. 10th at 8 a.m. at Bob Evans Restaurant in Leesburg.  The meal will be paid for by the Seniors fund.  Bring your appetite and ideas for our Seniors ministry.  Again I need to know if you plan to attend as soon as you can check your calendars.

For our Christmas outreach we will be preparing gift bags for needy children in the D. C. area (through Urban Outreach).  I will be checking with Barry Cates to see if he can deliver them for us.  Deadline for getting your bag(s) in will be announced through the WM’s Dept.

Pray for one another and let’s be busy in the Master’s service.
Blessings.  Charlotte Howard, Director
